Objectives

At the completion of this course the healthcare professional will be able to:

1. List the variety of ways that substance abuse,mental health, and trauma interact.
2. Evaluate the importance of context and culture in a person’s response to trauma.
3. Identify trauma-informed screening and assessment tools, techniques, strategies, and approaches.
4. Examine the essential ingredients,challenges,and processes in creating and implementing trauma-informed services within an organization.
5. Determine the key development activities for support staff members, including trauma-informed training and supervision, secondary trauma,and counselor self-care.
6. Illustrate the ethical guidelines and boundaries for the support staff members while responding to traumatic stress.
